"These women are gems, they are sharp and very aware" is the consensus of Dr. Cheryl Jordan and Amber Levister, the facilitators for the 2020 Women of Color Initiative Justice Fellowship Initiative (WoCI). WoCI is a project aimed at researching and analyzing solutions for the issues that women of color face. The twenty Fellows, profiled in the coming weeks, were selected through a competitive process that included essay questions and interviews.

The intensive 8-month program includes monthly interactive meetings conducted by Cheryl and Amber, direct action campaigns, social justice outreach placements through community organizations, a Capstone project based on the community partner, leadership development, and self-care techniques.

"Through this training," said Amber, "they will develop a better sense of self and discover ways to advance social justice causes in Georgia. They will be equipped to create change.

Cheryl agreed, "It's the power of sisterhood. As they recognize the challenges and hurdles of leadership, they will learn how to jump hurdles. They will have everything that they need to pay it forward".

Amber, who has Masters of Arts and Bachelors's degrees in Sociology from Georgia State University, approaches this project from an interdisciplinary foundation grounded in social justice and organizing with a background in the non-profit sector and as a university-level instructor.

Cheryl has a Ph.D. in Leadership and Change from Antioch University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interpersonal Communication and a Public Speaking and Master of Arts degree in Organizational Communication from the University of Cincinnati. She comes to this work with 30 years of experience as a leadership/team development consultant, senior executive and life coach with a proven track record of building the capability of others to contribute to meaningful and quality outcomes.
