What is a Listening Session?

A listening session is a gathering where a small group of people meet and talk about issues that are important to them. A facilitator guides the conversation by asking questions and encouraging discussion among the participants. The session is not recorded. A note-taker is present and takes notes that capture the conversation's main points and key themes. Our listening sessions focus on the needs and issues of importance to Women of Color. In Georgia. Women who participate will be anonymous. The feedback from the listening sessions will be added to the data gathered by the Women of Color survey we are conducting.

What are the Listening Session Events like?

Our events start with a communal dinner where we get to know each other. We share information about the Women of Color Initiative, the 2019 and 2022 surveys, and what to expect during the Listening Sessions. We are divided into smaller groups for the actual facilitated listening session. Once the breakout sessions end, we reconvene briefly as a large group and close out the evening. Food and childcare are provided at no cost during the event.

Why Listening Sessions?

Our goal in 2019 was to use the survey, listening sessions, and their results to focus the conversation on the issues that are most important to Women of Color in Georgia. In light of the pandemic, we must listen to Women of Color's voices, so now, in 2022, we want to continue the conversation around issues that impact Women of Color, and we need your voice to help make that happen! Over the summer, the survey is available to take by clicking here. In addition, we have Listening Session Events across the state for more in-depth face-to-face conversations. Register here for a listening session!
