Community Archives Project

Community archives and other community-centric histories, heritage, and memory projects work to empower communities to tell, protect, and share their history on their terms. Community archive models and community-driven archival practice address the 'symbolic annihilation' [to quote Michelle Caswell] “of historically marginalized groups in the historical record, and aim to create sustainable and accessible memory projects that address these archival absences."

Project Components

1) Complimentary Workshop on Community Archives

WoCI will offer a complimentary workshop on community archives to Women of Color leaders, including WoCI 2019 thought leaders, organizers, trusted messengers, WoC staff from Table Partner organizations, and other Women of Color in community groups and nonprofits. Upon completing the workshop, these "community creators" can begin an archive project for their racial/ethnic community or organization. Registration for this no-charge workshop will be posted on the website's homepage, coming soon.

2) WoCI Retrospective Report Release
